Cars
I drive and drive
A regular route
Each day metronomic
In its routine
Ordinary lines
Yet my gut tightens
Each time
Another car passes by
And I scan the colour
Look for pale green
Screw my eyes discerning
Lettering on a number
Plate - check for
HSO -
but not yet
Have I seen you.
How I resent
Your lodging
Of your body
Grin and hair
Deep in my brain's
Layers - I don't know
How to burn you out
Of there
Without blistering
My heart in the process.
Please depart.
Leave me whole, in peace,
Not splintering for one glimpse
Of you at the wheel
Of a pale green car.
