home II

I drove a long way today
from the coast to the mountains
bringing beautiful things
with me: the heart's flame;
the sky and sea on my hand;
a smiling face and love
of this land: the small places
and the large.

My lights were on here, at
home: fire in the hearth,
candles lit, and my mind
with all the spaces we have
moved through, the people
met, food, shared, was full.

I am privileged to be here,
to have you, surrounded
by my life I will learn
to live in calm, I hope,
bear the strangeness and the
black, do better hour to hour

travel on a new road
without crossing the door,
understand the way I came.
