Tidal

slow moves, body in deep water
legs seaweed-curled, slowly,
slowly the day rose and the
tide came in

I walked and plucked and
packed, cleaned-out the stove,
washed the dash, arranged
the boot, stowed my stuff

and left: regret for the good day
lost in the garden, the road
to the coast was slow: road
works and traffic, I arrived
after dark came down

tired, tired, my body ebbed
and flowed, tide out all was
flat calm and I slept with
one eye open
and awoke with no rest, no
peace in my heart where
the quiet should have been
