The Pact

We have a pact, you and I
not to intersect
look eye to eye
engage in unwarranted
contact
where other eyes might misconstrue
correctly
our touch

we intersect
enough
to keep the orbit true
not deflect
the course, the real, the two
lives that we must lead
fed by others and a
heart that is not shared

our negotiating moons
pared down to the bone
here the seeds sown
do not blossom

but light and heat
we generate
enough to feed us

and sustain
the fragile heart,
delineate
the task we share
agree again
each meeting.
