The Gardener

In love I have been parental,
partner, lover, companion, friend;
I am transformer, watching,
participating, in something that
always has a definable beginning
and a resolute end.  They
have found themselves in me,
and I lean on my hoe
as I watch them walk away, aware
of a rich harvest someone
else will see
where I prepared the ground.
