The Faithless Man
I have lost my love
and my body is empty
I am gathering silence
and my mind is full
the days stretch before me
full of hours and self, the
desert of my heart burns
like a noonday sun.
He has run, my love, to
another's arms, to fresh
skies and hope, to a busy
brief and things to do. He
is blithe my love, like
all the others are
when they leave you, when
they smile and turn away
and forget the hours they
gazed on your face. A day
comes when they sit, gaze
out of a window and
forget your name. The
sun looks inviting
and the bags are packed.
On a whim. They are gone.
