Face the Day

Without her
I am nothing, I

cannot stand alone
and no conversation

leaves me dumb, hurt-
eyed and alone.

I am animal in my
small layer, cowering -

in a corner afraid
to come out and

face a world of
people I cannot

combat on my own. For
this I was not

born, I never could
face their braying

front their sheer hard
nerve and laughter.

Daughter, I am
daughter, and I know

no other one to be
no other destiny

fits me. She left me
naked to

face a day I never
thought to see.
