remember them

the sun looked in today
lit up the golden trees like
lamps, splashing
bright against the white-
washed walls of the
cottage opposite

the walk was warm:
20 degrees in October
a single rogue day
it would not last

I curled around my past
and nursed my pains:
no good sleep last night
no gains today

hot tea I need to sweeten
and some toast to
settle my insides, I shy
away from company
stay away from the
limelight, cradle silence
remember them
