fire underground

the fire lights my way -
it is the heart
of my home, its bright
orange flame
comforts me, makes me
find I am one
and alone, secure
as I can be in this place

grace sifts my days
like dust
the past is in my
hallways:  touchstones
to a dream I
struggle to know is
true

time is our enemy:
silting our hearts
with dust, our bones
bodies and souls
tread the days
in the mine
because we must
