extremes II

the sun returns today
with bright breezes
all the trees are
restless and the wind
booms in the chimney

blue skies up there and
mobile white clouds
the rustling trees are
loud in the window
and the curtains move,
I can feel the air
swirl my feet

three wrens visited
yesterday, wee round
ball birds with pert
beaks and bright eyes
little yellow spots of
colour on their wings -

I can't see them yet today
but I hear them tweet
the tree outside my window
is already turning yellow
leaves scuffed and pale -
the season wears itself out
in extremes
