depth
the bottom plummets free
and keeps falling, there
is no limit to the scale
black sky overhead, fire
stars thickly scattered
care not for our daily bread
all the bodies fell over
all the years, bones
long gone to dust and
loam, feed the land and trees
the sad gaze to the horizon
beyond sight, beyond
strength - there is no going home
little people stand ill-at-ease -
incomprehending - the view
too vast to see, too dire
to climb, there are no
words as footholds
no map or compass given
and time fulfils
all our loss
there is no going home
lost in a landscape of decline
the question "why"?
remains unanswered by
our deity
