bargain

the paradox of blood:
the fury at what is and
has been chosen: the
lament at what is and
cannot be changed:
the pity for his lined
face, how gaunt, and
his chipped hands

two thin, beautiful
pale children he brought
into the world: they
cannot see where they are,
they cannot see he is
old, they canot see
anything real of the world

trapped in this place
with expectations
a life bought and sold
