Winter Guest

It is a time when
he comes again for me -
knocks afresh at my door
and the hope in my heart
is that I can hear
the knock and answer -
hear it resounding in
all my rooms and halls
and as a sacred guest
I ask him in
that I can meet him
in the midst of
all my toys and trinkets
see him through the
murk of my mind and
the haze of my heart
enough to hold his
hand and smile.
