Pheasants and roots

three fat lady pheasants
strolling my garden
look for seeds as I have kindly
removed the winter debris

mottled sky, blue and white
I have a new lady neighbour
I have not yet met (pray
for lightness and good grace)

bare feet on the wool carpet
hot tea -
I dread going down today
don't want to go, want
to stay: planted, rooting

but maybe the convent, the
Sisters have something to say
to me, to my heart, to
whisper some truth grain
in my ear, to my bone

I will be back here soon
I promise it
my place, my home
