In passing

clear bright sharp
yellow moon
just above the hill
(sky so smooth and still)
lighting up the clouds
from beneath
whilst opposite in finery
of yellow and green
the sun goes down behind
the mountain

air cool and still, warmed
from the day, fragrant, humid,
the water rushes free
down to the waterfall
the sluice gates opened
it yells itself over
boulders and bounds
down to join the loch

drowning in dusk
of velvet and navy -
man-made car lights
pool on the road

what can you say to such
beauty at the end of a day
the escarpment of your heart
can only look and pass away
