Burnley

slowly the light waned
and the stars came on:
saturn's yellow eye
bright before us

destination town: ranks
of lights in rows across the
hill, lit roads
and windows

hanging over all: a
huge yellow moon
low-slung, bright lantern

the ageless presence of space
peering down at our
prosaic life, our strings of
imitation lights,
tidy in the universe
so large in our eyes
