The Woman and the Flood
The waters are rising higher
out beyond the level of the houses and the trees.
The Lord is the strength behind my eyes.
We raise our hands in supplication to the skies
in the hope that our God sees
the waters are rising higher
threatening our homes, houses, lives -
the trees look bedraggled, with darkened leaves.
The Lord is the strength behind my eyes.
The bricks are floating now, a child is crying
and mud sucks my body to its knees -
the waters are rising higher.
Leaving, moving, we begin the long climb
past the village, toiling up the slopes of scree -
the Lord is the strength behind my eyes.
Solid ground we crave, safety, company, fire,
freedom from the grave, we breathe,
the waters are rising higher.
The Lord is the strength behind my eyes.
